Hot Off The Press!
It's here, it's finally here! The publication Collage, Decoupage and Altered Art by Diane Maurer-Mathison is now available. This book features complete instructions and step-by-step photos of my VooDoo Doll Kit. I am honored to be among such amazing artists as Linda & Opie O'Brien, Michael deMeng, Susan Lenart-Kazmer, Carol Owen and so many more. It's really a gorgeous book!
To Blog or Not To Blog? That IS The Question!
I've been contemplating starting my own blog for awhile now. The main reason being that it is an easy way to keep you all updated on what's new in my creative life, recent projects and works in progress as well as letting you get to know more about me and what makes me tick. So, what do you think? Should I? Is that something you'd like to see? Let me know...
Monochromatic Madness!
Recently I exercised my artistic mind by doing a free-form collage technique where I randomly chose types of media or techniques to add to the piece I was creating. I enjoyed the process so much, that I obsessively created 11 additional collages using the fantastic palette of Adirondack Paints! See more examples in the Collage section of my gallery.
Opening Night Class - Art & Soul Virginia
As a representative of my employer Ranger Crafts, I will be teaching a class for the Opening Night Party at Art & Soul in Hampton, Virginia. My associate and I will be demonstrating several Ranger products and we'll be creating this fun beachy shadowbox. Join us April 30thfor the class or stay for the entire retreat. You'll have a blast!
New Projects!
With cool weather of fall, thoughts turn away from the beach and more towards time in the studio. I've been rather busy and have 4 new projects that I've updated on the site. A new canvas creation called Self Direction...The folk art inspiered Halloween themed assemblage pictured here...a fun cigar box shrine dedicated to a favorite boardwalk game...a funky purse made from a found book carrying case...and my finished NJSO violin below. Peruse and enjoy!
VIOLIT: My Completed NJSO Violin!
Here it is, my completed violin for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra fundraiser! My inspiration was the instrument itself as well as a playful twist of words and color. I thought, hey, violet sounds like violin...and a monochromatic, rich purple theme was the born. I covered the violin in vintage sheet music, painted with a purple acrylic glaze, and finished with additional antique elements. All ten violins will be on tour in NJ, check out the NJSO website for more info.

Music to My...Hands?
I am lucky enough to be one of ten artists chosen to alter an unfinished violin for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. The finished violins will be raffled off and the proceeds will benefit Art Strings, to give music lessons to children. Stay tuned for my finished violin. In the meantime, click here to find out more and see the last round of altered instruments.
Making Waves at the Shore
Here’s a fun seashore-themed project I created using BeesWax over an 8” x 8” collaged canvas. The “water” is actually colored with To Dye For heat-safe dye, and the dimensional shells on the top half were created with BeesWax poured into a mold. The sand is original Ocean Grove...shhhh, don’t tell.
Yesterday’s Trash Goes Live June 2007!

The charming, Victorian town of Ocean Grove, New Jersey is where I call home.
